FESTIVAL STRING ORCHESTRA

Steadman Theatre, Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA

Featuring Nancy Boston, piano, Melia Repko, harp, Christian Fatu, violin

Opening Night begins with an exchange of musical thoughts in Vaughn Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Moving from English Renaissance to Baroque, the orchestra presents Bach’s Piano Concerto in F Minor. Next, the melodic sound of the harp soars in Debussy’s “Danse sacre'e et profane.” The evening ends with Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in D Minor.

FESTIVAL STRING ORCHESTRA

Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium, Corning, NY

Featuring Francisco Salazar, violin

Beginning with a Vaughn Williams favorite, Fantasia on “Greensleeves,” with flute and harp,

the performance takes a twist with the American Premiere of Uri Brenner’s City of Mystics, complete with a multimedia presentation. For the finale, the orchestra performs Bach’s Violin Concerto in E Major.

Terry Klinefelter Jazz Trio presents “New Standards”

Featuring Terry Klinefelter, piano, Paul Klinefelter, bass, Barry Dove, percussion

Enjoy a fusion of classical and jazz original compositions and arrangements by Terry Klinefelter,

whom the Philadelphia Inquirer describes as being “[O]n the cusp where

Mozart might mingle with Mingus.” The program will be announced from the stage.

Featuring Robert Bokor, violin

Coming from Argentina, Alberto Ginastera’s Variacciones Concertante highlights many of the principal players of the Festival Orchestra. The first half also includes Pablo de Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy with violin virtuoso Robert Bokor.

After intermission, become dazzled by Astor Piazzolla’s striking work, “Tangazo.”

The 2013 Season Grand Finale holds surprises for the audience. In a World Premier,

festival favorite Bram Wijnands will take the stage at the piano for his own orchestral

composition of “Swanee.” The evening will conclude with Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “New World Symphony.”
